Greetings, EUROAVIAns! As another successful congress ends, it’s time to reflect on the eventful week we spent at the Universidade da Beira Interior, located in the picturesque city of Covilhã. The congress was marked by engaging discussions, inspiring presentations, and the strengthening of connections within our aeronautical community. Let’s take a closer look at the highlights of this enriching experience.
On the 21st of September, most participants arrived in Covilhã, and the event kicked off with a casual meet-and-greet at a local park near the hotel, where we enjoyed a picnic. Old friends reconnected, and new bonds were formed in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
ExMEAC 2024 officially opened the week of the 22nd of September, with the election of the new IB and their respective roles. Meanwhile, other congress participants continued to arrive throughout the day, soon representing 12 different countries.
On the first night, the group gathered at Leões da Floresta bar, where the organisers prepared traditional Bifanas, grilling the pork over charcoal for a smoky flavour. As they enjoyed the meal along with a few beers, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The evening also included participating in a TikTok trend, this set the tone for a fun start to the trip.
Following the ExMEAC, the AMEAC began, and after several productive business meetings and in-depth discussions, it was time for Cultural Night on Tuesday. Hosted at one of Covilhã’s discos, this social event allowed congress members to share and taste snacks from their home countries. Despite an early start to the rainy season, with showers that night, the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of EUROAVIAns, who enjoyed a lively and fun-filled evening—a perfect break from the more formal atmosphere of the meetings.
On the morning of the 25th, participants had the option to relax in their hotel rooms or visit the spa or join a tour of Covilhã. Although the weather hadn’t improved, some members took the opportunity to explore the town, undeterred by the rain and steep hills. In the afternoon, attention turned to the sponsor fair, where participants learned about ongoing projects and the inner workings of various companies. It was an informative session and a valuable opportunity to connect with the industry.
Finally, on Friday the 26th, besides all the final touches of the congress, we had the opportunity to receive a new proposal to PAS in person, by the Aerospace Students of Universidade do Minho. It was a nice moment, to see the excitement of new students wanting to be a part of our community, and at the end, they were voted in favour and now we have officially the PAS Minho to be along with us in EUROAVIA.
After the closing of the final business meeting, attendees gathered for a gala dinner at the Paço 100 Pressa restaurant. This was the last occasion for everyone to come together before departing. While some chose to stay and explore Covilhã further, others opted to visit other parts of Portugal, including Lisbon and Oporto.
Overall, it was a unique experience for both first timers and veterans of the congress. The week was filled with goodwill and enthusiasm, and much was accomplished. From AS Covilhã, we sincerely hope all participants enjoyed their stay, and we’ll always welcome EUROAVIAns with open arms should they wish to visit again!
My role was to assist with anything needed during the Congress. Having never organised any International Event before, I gained insight into the immense work and hours the organising team put into this project. I have attended a couple of congresses and planned for this year’s AMEAC to be the last EUROAVIA Congress I attended. Being in Covilhã could not have been a better ending to a journey that started with me joining the Statutes and Bylaws WG in January 2022. I could not be prouder of the organising team and everyone involved. -Catarina Oliveira (Organisation Team)
