EUROAVIA is an Association that shapes your beliefs, perspectives, and how you view the world. This was no exception for Angeles Fuentes Rodriguez, an aerospace engineering student and EUROAVIA’s current International Board President. Her journey in EUROAVIA showcases how passion and teamwork can help her understand herself better.
From Humble Beginnings to Leadership
Angeles’ journey with EUROAVIA began locally in 2017, inspired by the unspoken tradition that all aerospace engineering students in Sevilla, Spain join the Association. After one year in the Association, she joined the Local Board of EUROAVIA Sevilla. Her first active involvement at an international level was the Space Symposium 2018, an event hosted by her Local Group, EUROAVIA Sevilla. After the event, she fell in love with the EUROAVIA spirit and decided she wanted to engage more on an international level.
She joined the Human Resources Working Group in September 2019 and, later on, also joined the Communication Working Group. Her first International Event, the Congress in Napoli 2022, marked a turning point. Overcoming her initial shyness, she immersed herself in EUROAVIA’s vibrant community. Already being involved at an international level, by the time she became the HR WG coordinator, she was certain she wanted to give back to the association as much as she gained! Reflecting on her progression, she describes her happiest memory as the handover ceremony where Leo – the former IB president- officially made her the EUROAVIA President.
“It was more than just a title. It was a moment that symbolized the growth I had experienced and the trust the team placed in me.”
The Importance of Team Spirit
Balancing her role as IB President with university life has not been without its challenges. “Sometimes, I feel like I’m playing catch-up,” she admitted. Yet, the encouragement from her team, Stamatis Moraitis and Elia Ghisellini keeps her going.
The IB has faced its fair share of hurdles, including a challenging transition period. Despite these difficulties, she expressed gratitude for the team’s chemistry and collective effort.
“ Our team is unique,” she said. “We don’t take individual credit—it’s always about the group.”
The Future of EUROAVIA
Looking ahead, she envisions EUROAVIA expanding its presence in universities and playing a significant role in aviation and space conferences across Europe. She dreams of seeing the association become a recognized voice in these industries while maintaining its core mission: connecting students with the aviation world. Her advice to new members is simple:
“Cherish every moment. Whether it’s your first event or your hundredth, every experience with EUROAVIA is a step towards growth.”
Final Thoughts
As the interview drew to a close, it was clear that her journey with EUROAVIA had been transformative. From a shy student to a confident leader, she has embraced every challenge with determination and grace.
Her role in the International Board has just started but one thing is certain: her story is an inspiring testament to the power of community, determination, and passion.
