Right after finishing our exam period, EUROAVIA Patras started working again at full capacity with the new semester ahead of us. February turned out to be a very fun month for us, for it was marked with celebrations and opportunities.
On the very first day of February we were honoured to be part of the Piraeus Startup Accelerator, an event hosted by a Greek bank, on its opening event; Driving Innovation in the Startup Ecosystem. The main theme was the exploration of innovative ideas and startups in the local area and the key role of student associations. Our Treasurer, Zack, represented EUROAVIA Patras at this conference and opened a very interesting dialogue with esteemed businessmen in a panel. This gives us big hope for the place EUROAVIA Patras holds here among successful businesses and the future collaborations with them.
This month we followed our Greek traditions and celebrated the new year by “cutting a vasilopita”, a special cake, not once but twice! A vasilopita or in English literal translation a “king’s cake” is a sweet cake that holds a secret; before baking, a coin is hidden inside. The person who finds the coin in their slice of the cake is said to have good luck throughout the year, but it is also typical to receive some kind of gift.
On Saturday the 23rd we celebrated along with eleven other student associations, as we are all a part of Patras Community, an even bigger association that promotes connection, communication and unity among the members of all the student teams of the University of Patras. One of our board members was even on the organizing team of the event and worked closely with the members of the other teams. At the end of the night, and by great coincidence, the coin was found in the slice of a member of not only one, but two teams, one of which was, you guessed it, EUROAVIA Patras!
But the party didn’t stop there! The very next day we hosted our own vasilopita event, where a large number of our members joined, celebrated, talked, laughed and had a lot of fun. To conclude this enjoyable evening, we cut our cake and the coin was found in the slice of our former Projects Director. With the amazing job of our working groups, we managed to host a very special and fun event, but also secure a lot of presents for our members, a flight simulation among others. It was truly a night to remember
As soon as the exam period concluded, EUROAVIA Patras resumed full operations, embracing the new semester with enthusiasm and determination. Our working groups have reconvened, holding their weekly meetings and making steady progress toward the exciting plans we have for the months ahead.
