On 14 May 2025, AS Munich organised the first Stammtisch event at the ESO Supernova in Garching. The Stammtisch event is a concept that consists of the gathering of EUROAVIA Munich members and getting to know each other while eating at a restaurant. However, this time, we wanted to combine the idea of the Stammtisch with a space-related activity, so we decided to visit the ESO Supernova.
We first visited the exhibition, which explored themes such as the beginnings of our life on Earth, how our galaxy was formed, life on different planets, and our journey to the Moon. After an hour of exploring the exhibition, we attended the planetarium show “Europe to the Stars,” which lasted an hour and a half. The planetarium show was hosted by one of the many ambitious and hard-working astronomers at ESO Supernova, and we were presented with how ESO was formed, how it extended over the years, and what the future plans are to build telescopes and extend observing sites for ESO to explore space like never before.

This concluded our visit to the ESO Supernova, and at the end of our visit, we all discussed what we learned throughout this visit. We can definitely say that we all left the ESO Supernova even more motivated and ambitious to contribute to the future of space exploration.
