“Inat” – More Than Just a Word from AS Beograd

May 25, 2025May 29, 2025 by Communication WG

Try translating the Serbian word inat into English, and you’ll quickly realise it is more than just stubbornness: it is quiet determination, a refusal to give up, especially when it seems like everything is lost. It’s the reason some teams walk away, while others stay up all night fixing what’s broken.

This is the story of Raven 19.

At our first official competition, the Air Cargo Challenge (ACC), expectations were high. We brought our unmanned aerial vehicle with pride and optimism. A miscalculation in the number of shear plates it could carry led to a devastating crash, and the UAV broke apart in flight. Many thought our competition was over before it even began, but giving up wasn’t an option.

That evening, our team got to work and through the night, they repaired the damage—no shortcuts, no complaints, just focus, teamwork, and quiet resolve. By morning, Raven 19 stood on the runway once again, repaired and ready to fly.

It wasn’t just the only UAV to take off that day. It was a reminder of who we are.

In Beoavia, we build more than aircraft. We build resilience. The kind that keeps you working when others stop watching. The kind that lifts you back into the sky. The spirit of Serbian inat. Because we know: we may fall—but we’ll never stay down.
