The past few months marked another dynamic and inspiring period for EUROAVIA Athens, filled with hands on engineering, international engagement, scientific outreach, and strong industry connections. Our activities during this time reflected our commitment to learning by doing, shaping the future of aviation, and sharing our passion with the wider community.
Our journey began with the successful completion of the How To Plane 101 Workshop, held on October 25th and 26th at the National Technical University of Athens. Over the course of two intensive days, participants explored the fundamentals of aerodynamics using XFLR5, mechanical design through SolidWorks, and modern manufacturing techniques with 3D printing using Bambu Lab. Theory met practice as teams designed, printed, and assembled four model aircraft, which were then tested through real flight experiments and aerodynamic analysis. The workshop offered a complete engineering experience, highlighting the full lifecycle of aircraft design and development. This achievement was made possible thanks to our dedicated instructors, as well as all participants, organizers, and members who contributed to making this workshop a true success.
At the end of November, our focus shifted to the international stage as members of EUROAVIA Athens participated in GEN Days, hosted at the EASA headquarters in Cologne from November 26th to 28th. These three days were filled with insightful presentations, case studies, discussions, and interactive workshops centered on the future of aviation. Topics included EASA’s role in innovation and regulation, the evolving aviation job market, and emerging trends such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, Big Data, and sustainability. A key takeaway from GEN Days was the idea that progress in aviation is built step by step, with every contribution playing a meaningful role. Our team returned to Athens inspired, motivated, and enriched by new perspectives and connections. This collaboration between EASA, EUROAVIA, T C Alliance, and the European Helicopter Association delivered a truly valuable experience for the attendees.
A particularly special moment for our team was a visit to the facilities of AVEK Vekrakos, our Platinum Sponsor. During this productive and inspiring meeting, we presented our latest aircraft project, HERMES VII, discussing its development progress and the next steps ahead. The visit reinforced the strong bond between our team and AVEK, whose continuous support plays a vital role in our journey. We are truly grateful for their trust and collaboration and look forward to achieving even more together in the future.
Finally, continuing our outreach efforts, we once again took part in the Athens Science Festival 2025, an event dedicated to bringing science and technology closer to society. Throughout the festival, we engaged with visitors of all ages, presenting our work and discussing aeronautical and aerospace engineering through interactive conversations. It was a rewarding opportunity to share our enthusiasm for science, innovation, and collaboration, while inspiring curiosity and interest in engineering among the public.
As the year came to a close, these experiences collectively strengthened our technical skills, broadened our horizons, and reaffirmed our vision for the future of aerospace. EUROAVIA Athens continues to move forward with passion, teamwork, and ambition, ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
