After hosting the Lustrum and the EMEAC, May was once again a month where we focused on our local events.
To finish the academic year with a bang, we organised our second field trip to the Turkish Technic facility; a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines and the leading aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) centre of Turkey, located at the Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul. Turkish Technic provides comprehensive services that include maintenance, repair, and modification of commercial and military aircraft, engines, and components.
We visited the facility with thirty students from our faculty, we met with the facility manager, followed by the engineers and technicians who gave us the tour.
We had the opportunity to explore both the narrow-body and wide-body hangars, where we had an insight into the extensive maintenance and repair processes. Following this, we visited the Research and Development office and the innovation office, where we learned about the latest technological advancements and ongoing projects that drive the company’s growth.
Throughout the day, various company presentations were made, highlighting different aspects of the organisation, its background and its operations. To wrap up the day, a quiz was held to test our knowledge on what we have learned throughout the day and about civil aviation in general. The winner of the quiz was rewarded with a model airplane of Turkish Airlines, and we were all given gift bags, concluding this memorable event.
The field trip was not only an educational experience but also an inspiring one for our members, offering a first-hand look at the critical role of innovation and precision in civil aviation, engaging with industry professionals and observing real-world applications.
As AS Istanbul, we hope to organise more engaging and impactful events in the upcoming academic year to create memorable experiences for our members.
