July 2025 Update from AS Athens

July 30, 2025July 30, 2025 by Communication WG

EUROAVIA Athens is gearing up for an exciting challenge: the New Flying Competition, an international student aerospace event set to take place this August in Hamburg, Germany. Representing our team is Hermes VII, our custom-designed RC aircraft built to push the boundaries of performance, innovation and engineering excellence.

Designed for Performance

To meet the competition’s rigorous structural and aerodynamic requirements, our team engineered a retractable landing gear system using precision-machined aluminum components. The system features articulated front legs and a separate rear wheel unit, all designed to seamlessly retract into the fuselage. This minimizes drag and maximizes flight efficiency.

In addition, we developed custom wing spar adapters that connect with our composite wing structure, secured by durable aluminum corner brackets. These elements ensure both strength and adaptability under competitive flight conditions.

Celebrating the Journey

What better way to commemorate Hermes VII than with a fresh drop of team merchandise? We’ve launched limited edition Hermes VII t-shirts and our signature “Remove Before Flight” keychains, perfect for supporters and team members alike.

And of course, we made sure Hermes VII looks good as well.

After months of hard work, testing and iteration, we’re proud to see Hermes VII ready for takeoff.
