You may know our association has over 60 years of existence, more than Airbus and the European Space Agency (ESA), but do you know how EUROAVIA was founded?
The idea of EUROAVIA was born in 1956 between some students in Aachen, who witnessed the gap between the Aerospace Industry, the students and the bigger economic branches. Correspondence began with professors from France, Belgium and the Netherlands, one sentence can be highlighted from these letters: “Single European nations cannot provide resources for further development of the European Aerospace. For that reason, it is essential to meet the problems and challenges of the future with a collective cooperation of the European states on a civil, military and university basis.”
By 1958, fourteen students were already in Aachen’s group, visits to France and from Netherlands began; a “comité provisoire” was founded between Aachen, Delft, Paris and Pisa, the name EUROAVIA was first mentioned.
Finally, EUROAVIA was founded by the Constituent Congress who took place in Aachen in March 1959 with representatives from Aachen, Berlin, Braunschweig, Delft, ENSA and ENICA Paris, Milan, Pisa, Stuttgart, and Turin.
