EUROAVIA is not all about the International Board (IB) and the Local Groups (LGs) spread all over Europe, but also about many people working behind the scenes in different areas, in what we call Working Groups (WGs). But do you know which is the oldest EUROAVIA WG?
In the past (around the 1960s), EUROAVIA depended greatly on the work from the Central Committee (CC) and the LGs to grow. Since they were the first years of the association, it was extremely important to communicate what was being done, and the LGs would write articles about their activities that would be merged into the “EUROAVIA News”. Keep this in mind…
Years passed, the association overcame difficult times, and every year the contributions from the LGs to the association were getting more and more important. Activities were rapidly increasing, and the CC had to manage many LGs as EUROAVIA was growing and expanding its network. So, communicating what was being done greatly gained importance. For this reason, in 1987 it was decided to create the first WG that would have to take care of the EURAOVIA Newsletter, whose aim was to improve the communication between the LGs and the CC and spread the word on the different activities.
Today the WG in charge of the Newsletter is the Communication Working Group (CM WG), which would therefore make it to be the oldest official WG from EUROAVIA! As of today, along with the CM WG, there are nine other WGs: Affiliated Societies, Business Relations, Design, EUROAVIA Training System, Human Resources, International Board, International Events, Information Technology, and Regulations and European Connections. All of them work together to make our association fly higher than ever.
