Dear EUROAVIA family,
We hope you are all having a fantastic month! Today, we want to look back and share an incredible highlight from last month. The EUROAVIA Sevilla team packed their bags and headed coastward for an exclusive, hands on field trip to one of the most strategically important military hubs in Europe: the Rota Naval Base.
As aerospace enthusiasts, we are used to looking at the sky, but this visit allowed us to get up close and personal with some truly magnificent machinery, blending the worlds of cutting edge aviation and naval power.
Up Close with the Fleet
Our tour started on a high note as we explored the base’s hangars and flight lines. We had the unique opportunity to inspect an impressive lineup of military helicopters, learning about their maintenance, aerodynamics, and the vital role they play in search and rescue, surveillance, and tactical operations.
But the aviation thrills didn’t stop there. We also got a firsthand look at several tactical transport aircraft. These logistics giants are designed for everything from moving heavy troop deployments to facilitating high-level VIP and command transportation.

Seeing the sheer scale of these aircraft and understanding the complex engineering required to keep them operational under extreme conditions was an absolute eye-opener for all of us.
Boarding the Castilla (L-52)
The cherry on top of this spectacular visit was, without a doubt, stepping aboard the Castilla (L-52), the Spanish Navy’s renowned Galicia-class amphibious transport dock. Walking the decks of this massive vessel allowed us to see how naval operations seamlessly integrate with aviation, especially when observing the ship’s flight deck and hangar capabilities. Furthermore, we were privileged enough to descend into the heart of the ship and visit the engine room, where we got a rare, firsthand look at the massive propulsion systems and engineering marvels that power this giant across the oceans. Understanding the logistics of launching aircraft from a moving platform in the middle of the ocean gave us a whole new appreciation for naval engineering.

A Huge Thank You!
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the personnel at the Rota Naval Base for welcoming EUROAVIA Sevilla with open arms, sharing their knowledge, and inspiring the next generation of aerospace professionals. This trip was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do, and it has only fueled our passion for the aerospace sector.
