A week of formation, teamwork and Aegean light — where trainings, ruins, and friendships all took flight.

For one week this July, EUROAVIA PAS İzmir welcomed aerospace students from across Europe to the shores of the Aegean for the Formation Workshop. Days belonged to the trainers and their real-life cases; evenings belonged to İzmir — its coastline, its history and its people.
WHAT IS A FOWO?
The Formation Workshop is EUROAVIA’s flagship soft-skills event, led by ETS Working Group trainers. Through hands-on teamwork and real cases, participants sharpen leadership, communication, problem-solving, and project management — the skills that keep Local Boards and International Events running. This week, guided by trainer Luigi Ammirabile and the ETS team, the training room did exactly that, and İzmir did the rest.

The Welcome Dinner
The week opened the way İzmir does best — by the water, at golden hour. Over a welcome dinner on the bay, participants met for the first time, shared stories about their home societies, and settled into the days ahead, as the sun dropped behind the Aegean.

THE HIGHLIGHT · ANCIENT CITY
Ephesus, by night
No visit to İzmir is complete without Ephesus. We walked the marble streets of the ancient city as the light faded, and stayed until the Library of Celsus stood glowing against the dark — two thousand years of façade lit up in front of us. It was the evening the whole group agreed they would remember longest, and the photo that ended up on everyone’s phone.

The City From Above
Between sessions, we swapped the training room for a cable-car ride high above İzmir. The teleferik carried us up over the pines to a terrace where the whole bay opened out below — a well-earned breather, and a chance for photos no phone could quite do justice to.

RIDING THE TELEFERIK UP OVER THE CITY
Every good event wears its name. For FoWo İzmir we designed our own shirt — “Formation Workshop · İzmir’26” wrapped around a grid of Anatolian tiles in EUROAVIA blue and warm red. It turned a room full of strangers into one visibly shared team, and travelled with us everywhere from the training hall to the streets of Şirince.

Şirince
The hill village of Şirince gave the group its most relaxed morning: cobbled lanes climbing between vine-shaded shops, the smell of fruit wine and olive soap, and views out over the valley at every turn. We wandered through its historic churches and side streets in full FoWo colours, in no particular hurry at all.

The Final Dinner
The week closed the way it began — around a long table, under the trees, plates and stories passed from end to end. By the last night, a room full of strangers had become a network stretched across Europe, already trading plans to meet again at the next EUROAVIA event.

Six days, one team, endless tailwind
