AS Lyon Takes Flight: Preparing for the Air Cargo Challenge 2026

Over the past academic year, the members of AS Lyon have been working towards one goal: designing, manufacturing, and flying a UAV capable of competing in the Air Cargo Challenge (ACC) in Stuttgart. Bringing together around 40 dedicated students, the project has been an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to a real engineering challenge while developing teamwork, project management, and hands-on technical skills.

Our aircraft was designed to meet the demanding requirements of the competition while maximizing efficiency and payload capacity. The final configuration features an elliptical wing, a twin-motor propulsion system, and a V-tail, combining efficiency with stability. Designed to carry up to 12 beverage cans as payload, every aspect of the aircraft reflects months of optimization, balancing structural strength, weight, and flight characteristics.

The project has been a truly collaborative effort, from the initial conceptual design all the way to the final flight tests. Every team member has contributed to turning an idea into a fully operational aircraft. Working across multiple technical disciplines has not only resulted in a successful UAV but has also strengthened our ability to collaborate, solve problems, and work together under pressure.

After completing the design phase, manufacturing, and a successful series of flight tests, we are now entering the final stage of the project. With the aircraft validated and preparations underway, our focus has shifted to ensuring everything is ready for the Air Cargo Challenge, so we will be prepared to perform at our best.

Beyond the competition itself, this project has been a great learning experience for everyone involved. It has allowed us to transform theoretical knowledge into actual engineering solutions. We are proud of what our team has accomplished and excited to represent AS Lyon at the Air Cargo Challenge 2026.

We look forward to meeting fellow EUROAVIA members and many other student teams from across the world, sharing our experiences, and demonstrating the results of a year of dedication and teamwork. We hope to achieve a strong performance in Stuttgart and, above all, to enjoy the unique opportunity that the Air Cargo Challenge offers.
