Fly-Mi EUROAVIA Milano Visits Linate Airport: A Closer Look at Business Aviation
Earlier this Business Year, Fly-MI EUROAVIA Milano had the chance to visit a hangar at Milano Linate Airport hosted by Sirio S.p.A., a global aircraft management and maintenance organization. The visit allowed our members to explore the world of business aviation from a closer perspective and to connect academic knowledge with real aircraft, operations, and engineering challenges.
On the 2nd of April, during the visit, our group entered a professional hangar environment where business jets are inspected, maintained, and prepared for operation. Surrounded by aircraft, technical equipment, and maintenance tools, our members were able to observe details that are often only discussed theoretically during university courses.
The visit highlighted the great attention to detail required in aircraft maintenance. From receiving and storing parts to organizing tools and performing maintenance on the aircraft, every step is recorded on a dedicated platform to ensure that all checklists are completed and that the work is carried out as accurately as possible.
Following Sirio’s maintenance manager around the hangar, we received an in-depth explanation about the protocols they follow and the aircraft systems, while also seeing an aircraft with its fuselage and wing panels opened and even entering one of the planes. The technical explanation provided during the visit made the experience even more valuable and provided us with some real-life examples, with the Sirio staff sharing with us some of their experiences in the field and showing us some old parts (even a turbine blade from a plane’s engine which was hit by a bird strike!)
Beyond the technical side, the visit was also an important moment for our local group. Events like this represent the core mission of EUROAVIA: bringing students closer to the aerospace industry, creating opportunities for learning, and strengthening the connection between academic studies and professional reality. For many members, it was also a chance to reflect on possible future career paths in aircraft maintenance, operations, design, certification, or airport-related activities.
